Abstract

Objective:To develop blending silicone el astomers with lower Shore A hardness for facial prostheses.Method: The base of SY-1 and C silicone elas tomers was mixed at different mass ratios, and added proper quantity of mixed cr oss-linking agent and catalyst to base, then Shore A hardness of the vulcanized specimens was measured and three base mixing ratios were identified in accordanc e with hardness nearest to 18,20,22 Shore A units.Result: The mass ratios of base were 76∶24, 78∶22, 84∶16 respectively when hardness of vulcanized specim ens were 18.1±3.6 , 19.9±4.1 , 22.0±2.8 which were the nearest to 18, 20, 22 Shore A units. Conclusion: Blending SY-1 and C silicone elastomer at proper mass rati os could obtain compound silicone elastoemrs with lower hardness which would ful fill the demands of restoration of different facial defects.
