Abstract
The activated carbon was modified by the oxidization of the diluted nitric acid and the heat treatment at 800 ℃ under the nitrogen atmosphere. The activated carbon before and after the modification were characterized by BET,FTIR and the Boehm titration. The results indicated that both the pore structure and the surface chemistry had been altered after modification. The textural parameters of the activated carbons didn't display the apparent proportional relation with the adsorption capacity. Moreover, the surface chemistry played more important role on the adsorption capacities. The adsorption capacities decreased as the acid functional groups increased.
