Hu Shi and the Thought of Ci in the 20th Century

In the 20th century ,Hu Shi stepped in the research of Ci,which put great impact on the Ci' s new construction. In the 20s 30s, he developed the thought of Wang Guowei's criticized the most four famous poets of the Qing Dynasty. Some people protested him, some people supported him. These two opinions divided the field of Ci into two genres in the contemporary history-the genrein the system and the genre out of the system . Later,in 1950s 1960s,as an authority of bourgeois academic theory ,Hu Shi became the target of the criticizing. But his thinking was well-accepeted by Hu Yunyi's The Selected Works of Song Ci. Until 1980s, the situation has changed, people began to adjust the attitude toward Hu Shi his thought. Nomatter how the roll of Hu Shi varied, the value of his theory of Ci has been beyond itself the theory has became the weather-vane of the 20th century' s theory of Ci.
