Abstract
Xu Shizeng's parallel prose criticism cannot be neglected in the history of ancient Chinese literary thought.His work Wen Ti Ming Bian(i.e.,On Style) intensively reflects his thinking and opinions on the parallel prose which can be concluded as following four aspects: the consciousness of respecting for the ancients and theory tendency of respecting free prose while restraining Pin(parallel prose);the elaboration on the parallelizing development and the growth and decline of parallel prose;adequate demonstration of the applied range of parallel prose;and inheriting the former parallel prose criticism.
