Abstract

Objective To evaluate the efficacy on sequential therapy with moxifloxacin for lower respiratory tract infection in old patients.Methods A total of 58 patients were divided into 2 groups.The treatment group(n=30) was given 400 mg of moxifloxacin intravenously,once a day,and the control group(n=28) was given 1.5 g of cefuroxime intravenously,twice a day.Two groups took congeneric medicine orally when their symptoms of disease were improved.Results The clinical effective rates of moxifloxacin and cefuroxime were 93.3% and 71.4%,respectively(P0.05).The bacterial clearance rates of moxifloxacin and cefuroxime were 94.4% and 76.5%,respectively(P0.05).The incidences of adverse reaction of moxifloxacin and cefuroxime were 6.7% and 7.1%,respectively(P0.05).Conclusion Moxifloxacin is an effective and safe antibiotic in sequential therapy for the old patients with lower respiratory tract infection.
