Abstract
Objective To explore the correlation between cerebral infarction and carotid atheroscleorosis by MSCT. Methods 48 patients with cerebral infarction was performed CT examination in the carotid arteries . The thickness of plaques were measured and compared with 37 cases in the contrast group. Results Twenty-six cases with plaque formation were detected in the cerebral infarction group. The rate of lesion detection was 54.2%. Five plaques formation were detected in the contrast group and the rate of lesion detection was 13.5%. There was significant difference between the two groups(P0.01). The most common site of plaque formation is the bulb of the common carotid artery, and then proximal internal carotid artery. Conclusion The degree of carotid atheroscleorsis is in proportion to the incidence rate of cerebral infarction. MSCT is an useful technique in detecting atherosclerosis of the carotid artery, for assessing potential occurrence of cerebral infarction.
