Preliminary Observation of Relationship between Feature of Tongue Manifestations and Syndrome Patterns in 166 Cases of Chronic Gastritis

In order to study the relationship between the feature of tongue manifestation and syndrome patterns in the patients with chronic gastritis, a “Recording Table for Discrimination of Quantitative Grades in Tongue Manifestations was designed and used to observe and analyze the tongue manifestations in 166 cases of chronic gastritis and conduct a gradual distinguishing analysis on the relationship between the tongue manifestations and classification of TCM syndrome differentiation. 5 quantitative parameters of slight red tongue, pale tongue, blue purple tongue, yellow tongue coating and peeled tongue coating were screened and a distinguishing function for classification of tongue manifestations in different patterns of chronic gastritis was established. The total backcross rate of the obtained distinguishing function on correct discrimination of the primary data was 51.8%, including in the pattern of deficiency in the spleen and stomach, 70% in the pattern of dampness and heat in the spleen and stomach, and 59.09% and 55% respectively in the pattern of blood stasis in the stomach collaterals and pattern of stomach yin deficiency.
