Abstract

Objective: To study the relationship between hyperhomocysteinemia and carotid artery arteriosclerosis in old cerebral infarction patients. Methods: 150 patients older than 60 years with cerebral infarction were examined by color Doppler ultrasonography. The patients were divided into three groups based on the severity of stenosis of CAA,the moderate severe stenosis group, the slight stenosis group and normal group.90 cases health examinationers in control group.Hcy level was determined by MEIA.The results of serum Hcy levels in different groups were compared. Results: there were statistically significant differences between the three groups(P0.01).There was significant difference of Hcy levels between the slight tenosis group and normal group(P0.05).There was statistically significant difference of Hcy level between the cerebral infarction group and control group(P0.01).Hcy levels and IMT were positively correlated. Conclusion: serum Hcy level is closely correlated with the severity of the stenosis of CAA of cerebral infarction patients.Decreasing the level of serum Hcy may be very important for the treatment and prevention of cerebral infarction patients.
