Clinical evaluation of four syphilis detection methods

Objective:To evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of ELISA,reaction plasma reagin(RPR),colloidal gold method and treponema pallidum particle agglutination in syphilis detection.Methods: 1215 cases were detected with ELISA,RPR and colloidal gold method,and the positive cases were then confirmed by TPPA to compare the consistency of the four methods.Results: 11 cases were positive by ELISA,6 cases were positive by RPR,13 cases were positive by colloidal gold method and11 cases were positive by TPPA.Conclusion: ELISA was the optimal method for syphilis primary screening.Colloidal gold method had high false positive rate and RPR had high false negative rate,so the two methods need to combine with TPPA and clinical manifestation for accurate results in syphilis detection.
