Clinical effect of Losartan plus hydrochlorothiazide in elderly patients with essential hypertension

Abstract
Objective To observe the clinical effect of Losartan plus hydrochlorothiazide in the treatment of hypertension in the elderly patients.Methods 68 patients with essential hypertension were treated with Losartan(50mg,qd) plus hydrochlorothiazide(12.5mg,qd),After 12 weeks treatment if blood pressure did not control well,the dose of Losartan was increased to 100mg daily.Blood pressure and some biochemical parameters,such as liver and renal function,blood potassium,blood uric acid and blood lipid were evaluated before and after treatment.Results After 12 weeks treatment,the effective rate blood pressure control was 89.7% without marked side-effect.Conclusion Losartan plus hydrochlorothiazide is effective and safe in the treatment of hypertension in elderly patients.
