Abstract
Objective To explore the correlation between serum pro-and anti-inflammatory cytokine concentrations and the prognosis of sepsis patient. Methods 28 sepsis patients were enrolled in the study, 22 survived and 6 patients died. 8 health individuals served as control group for determination of serum cytokine levels. The serum cytokine levels were detected by ELISA method.The severity of patient's condition was assessed according to APACHEⅡsystem. Results Compared with control group, the APACHEⅡ score of sepsis patients increased, and especially in nonsurvivors. Levels of TNF-α, IL-1, IL-6, IL-10 increased significantly in the sepsis patients, and especially the levels of IL-1, IL-10 (P0.05).Serum IL-10 level and the ratio of IL-10 to IL-1 were significantly higher in nonsurvivors than in survivors(P0.05).Conclusion Levels of both pro-and anti-inflammatory cytokines concentrations significantly increased in the sepsis patients.The elevated serum concentrations of IL-10 and IL-1, and a high serum concentration ratio of IL-10 to IL-1 were correlated with the death of patients.
