Abstract
The general development trend of oil drilling technology is characterized with information, intelligence, and automation, and finally with the automatic drilling materialized in the 21st century. It is proposed that research on main techniques related with automatic drilling be speed up. The relative techniques include industrialization technology of wells with complex structures, drilling information technology, new green non-pollution drilling fluids, measurement while drilling (MWD) and formation evaluation while drilling (FEWD) technology, down hole dynamic data acquisition-processing application system, information stream closed loop system and rotary steering closed loop drilling technology, modern balance drilling technology, coiled tube technology, etc. Technical difficulties in deep and extra deep drilling shall be tackled; oil gas formation protection and slim hole industrialization technology shall be further improved and promoted. Research on drilling theories shall be enhanced.
