Association Between Serum Adiponectin and Blood Pressure in Chinese Female Adolescents

Objective To study the association between serum adiponectin and blood pressure in Chinese female adolescents,and to discuss the impact of adiponectin on blood pressure and cardio vascular diseases.Methods One hundred and seventy-two female adolescents aged 14-16 were randomly selected,and their body weight,height,waist circumference and blood pressure were measured.Blood samples were taken from each subject after 12 hours of fasting for measuring levels of TG,TC,LDL-C,HDL-C and glucose.Results Serum adiponectin level correlated with both systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure significantly(P0.05).After the adjustment for BMI,waist circunference and metabolic factors,multivariate linear regression models revealed that both SBP and DBP were independently related to the serum adiponectin levels.Conclusion Both SBP and DBP are inversely related to the serum adiponectin independent of other variables of the MS and other risk factors.
