Treatment of liver function injury after TACE with Chinese herbal medicines and trithioanethole in hepatocellular carcinoma

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of Chinese herbal medicines combined with trithioanethole in treatment of liver function injury after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE).Methods Sixty-four advanced hepatocellular carcinoma patients were divided into two groups:group A(n=34) and group B(n=30).Chinese herbal medicines for invigorating the spleen and activating blood circulation were used in group A before and after TACE.Some other Chinese medicines were added according to the symptoms and trithioanethole was also used after TACE.Glucurolactone and inosine were used in group B before and after TACE.Liver function was measured in both group A and group B before 1stTACE and one month after 1stand 2ndTACE respectively.Results In group A,compared with before TACE,there were no statistically significant changes(or only a mild rise) in ALT,GGTP,TB and DB after 1st and 2ndTACE(P0.05),while in group B(P0.01),there were significant changes in ALT,GGTP,TB and DB after TACE.Conclusions The Chinese herbal medicines for invigorating the spleen and activating blood circulation combined with trithioanethole can prevent liver function injury after TACE.
