Abstract

Yuan Keding,Yang Du,the radical faction during Hongxian monarchy,who favored monarchial constitution,contended that reelection of democratic presidency once five years was more than what the country could bear,while Yuan Kewen,belonging to a mild faction,thought Yuan Ke ding was rash and radical,detrimental to Yuan Shi-kai's rule.Caught between the two factions,Yuan Shi-kai could not make his mind and as a result,Hongxian monarchy failed.
