Expression of NF - κB in Brain Neuronal Cell after Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in Rats

Abstract

Objective To investigate the expression of NF -κB in the rat brain following car-diopulmonary resuscitation. Methods Cardiac arrest was induced by asphyxiation and ice - cold 0. 5mmol/L KCL in rats and resuscitation efforts were begun 5min after arrest. Twenty - eight Sprague Daw-ley rats, half female and half male , were randomly divided into 5 groups: sham control group ( n = 4 ) ; after cardiopulmonary resuscitation rats were allowed to reperfuse spontaneously for 3,6,12 and 24h(n, =6, per group). NF -κB protein expression in the rat brain were studied using immunohistochemistry at 3, 6, 12 and 24h after resuscitation. Results NF -κB protein expression was early observed at 6h, there were 11. 2% NF -κB - positive neuronal cells in the hippocampal at 24h. NF -κB - positive glial cells also occurred around the hippocampal. Conclusion The increased NF -κB expression has both protective and harmful effects on neuronal cells after global ischemia - reperfusion in rats.
