Abstract

Literary criticism is first of all the criticism of the readers and embodies the feelings and understandings towards literature and literary works.Modern Chinese literary criticism appears in three main types. The first is of politics, represented by MAO Ze-dong who advocated political criticism. The second is of literariness, and LU Xun is the prototype concerning human life. The third is of academicality, led up by LIANG Shi-qiu,ZHU Guang-qian,LI Chang-zhi,LI Jian-wu and others. These three have types of continuity in between and have complicated the modern Chinese literary criticism. After 1949,MAO's political criticism took the mainstream of discourse, which led to the destruction of the whole balance. The end of the so-called Cultural Revolution gave rise to the chance of developing the life and academic criticisms. However, the impetus from the western thoughts caused a one-sided going of the latter and a comparatively retard of the former.
