Abstract
We studied the seed germination ecology of Atriplex verrucifera Bieb. The research aspects include:effect of temperature, bracts on seed germination;effect of NaCl concentration on seed germination and germination recovery,on radicle elongation and elongation recovery after seeding transferred to distilled water. The results showed that:(1)The germination rate of A.verrucifera seeds can reach above 80% in a wide range of thermoperiod treatments of 5℃/2℃,15℃/5℃,20℃/10℃,25℃/5℃,25℃/15℃,the optimal temperature for germination was 25℃/15℃.(2)The bracts did not inhibite A.verrucifera seed germination, but bracts can elongate the time of germination.(3)Germination and radical elongation were promoted by 0.2 mol/L NaCl and were completely inhibited by 0.8 mol/L NaCl.(4)Seeds that were incubated in NaCl solution for 12 d recovered after being transferred to distilled water and the percentage of recovery from high salinity was higher than low concentrations. The final germination percentages in NaCl were higher than the nonsaline control. The result incited that NaCl inhibited germination by osmotic stress. The adaptive strategy help A.verrucifera survive and reproduce successfully in the salt desert of Xinjiang.
