Abstract

The disaster is a important factor that restrict the sustainable development of a region. Sichuan province is situated in the southwest part of China, which is distributed over three topographicl regions, they are Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Hengduan Mountain and Sichuan Basin. In this province, the natural conditions are very complicated, and the disaster has high frequency, many kinds, heavy losses. The life and proprety of peoples are endanger by the disater. The sustainable development of the social and economics are restrict, the difference of development between regions in this province, and the weak ecological environment has become more weaker by disaster in Sichuan province. This paper not only discuss the characteristics and the harm of the disaster in Sichuan province, but also put forward some important countermeasures for decreasing disater, such as strengthen the ecological construction, strengthen the irrigation works and perfect the laws and rules, etc. , so that the region will increase the ability of sustainable development.
