Shanghai's Modern Service Industry:Its Ability in Absorbing Employment

Modern service industry is a knowledge-intensive,production-oriented service industry.Proceeding from the general rules concerning absorbing employment specified by the Petty-Clark Theory and taking into consideration of Shanghai's realistic conditions and the city's future role in the nation's strategies for economic development,this article makes an in-depth study on the ability of Shanghai's modern service industry in absorbing employment.It further maintains that in developing the Two Centers,restructuring Shanghai's modern service industry will serve as a starting point.The article also presents proposals and suggestions for the restructuring of Shanghai's modern service industry.
