Clinical Effect Observation of Comprehensive TCM Treatment on Patients with Knee Osteoarthritis

Abstract

Objective To observe the curative effect of comprehensive TCM treatment in treating advanced knee osteoarthritis(KOA). Methods 120 advanced KOA patients were randomly divided into two groups,the treatment group(n=60) received comprehensive TCM treatment,and the control group(n=60)was given intra articular injection of Sodium Hyaluronate. The cumulative scores of symptoms and pain inten-sity scores of two groups were evaluated,and the changes of contents of synovial fluid IL-1 and MMP-3 were determined. Results After the treatment,the cumulative scores of symptoms,pain scores and contents of IL-1 and MMP-3 in the two groups were decreased significantly( P0.05),and the decreasing amplitude in treatment group was higher than those of control group(P0.05). Conclusion Comprehensive TCM treatment can significantly improve clinical symptoms of advanced KOA patients.
