Brief Introduction of Vasiliev′s The Compendium of Chinese Literary History

Vasiliev,the famous Russian sinologist,was the author of the first survey of Chinese literature in the world,which was 24 years earlier than the literary history written by Chinese people.As a sinologist of 19th century,his viewpoints of the properties and characters of Chinese literature revealed the traditional impression-deviation in European′s view.His investigation of Chinese literary origin and the arguments on the relation between Chinese and foreign literature had pioneering values in that situation.Vasiliev′s view of literary history was formed on the base of European literary theory and by the combination with the concepts of Chinese traditional literature.
