Changes in the spatial structure of Manufacturing Industries in China:2003～2009

Abstract

This paper develops a revised EG index and measures the clustering coefficients of 28 manufacturing industries in China between 2003 and 2009.And then,we analysis the changes in the spatial structure of manufacturing industries from the perspective of time industry and geographical directions,respectively.Results show that agglomeration and diffusion are both existing during this period.Technology-intensive manufacturing industries have become the leading of highly concentration industries,labor-intensive and resource processing industries are moving closer to moderate concentration industries,capital-intensive industries are gradually close to low concentration industries.Eastern coastal regions are still the main agglomeration areas,but Textile,Petroleum processing and coking Plant industry,Instrumentation are diffusing to HeNan,LiaoNing,JiLin,ShanXi and HeiLongJiang provinces.
