Abstract

Objective To study valid clinical treatments and methods of reducing the morbidity and relapse rate of asthma, related factors of asthma in children were investigated. Methods Five hundred asthmatic children were enrolled from pediatric patients hospitalized in the Department of Pulmonology of Hebei Children's Hospital from January 2007 to March 2009.Asthmatic patients were 1 ∶ 1 matched with nonasthmatic children of same age,sex and region, forming 500 paired groups.Questionnaire was used to find related factors. Results Total 33 factors were investigated and analyzed by Logistic regression analysis.Eight factors were excluded and 25 factors were included in the end. There were 6 high risk factors,2 middle level risk factors,12 low risk factors and 5 protective factors. The high risk factors included familial asthma, eczema and the others.Middle level risk factors included the parents' and patients' history of allergy and asthma.Low risk factors included the history of urticaria, passive smoking etc.Protective factors included eating fish and apples frequently during pregnancy, breastfeeding, timely Bacillus Calmette-Guerin(BCG) vaccination etc. Conclusions Genetic factors were closely related to the development of asthma in children. The atopic constitution was a risk factor of asthma.Frequent respiratory tract infections promoted the persistent asthma.Air pollution of both indoor and outdoor environment was associated with asthma.Reasonable diet in pregnancy and balanced nutrition of children's diet would reduce the incidence of asthma in children.
