Abstract

The major inorganic component of natural bone and teeth is hydroxyapatite (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2,HA) nanocrystals. Synthetic hydroxyapatite possesses similar structure, morphology and component with natural biominerals and is widely used in the medical and dental fields for its excellent biological compatibility and bioactivity. This paper summarizes the study situation, the specialty, the main synthesis methods and the application in medical engineering of hydroxyapatite bioceramic.
