Therapeutic Effect of Acupuncture on Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy and Its Influence on hs-CRP

Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical therapeutic effect of acupuncture on diabetic peripheral neuropathy and its influence on inflammatory cytokine-hypersensitive C-reactive protein(hs-CRP).Methods Sixty patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups.In addition to basic treatment for diabetes,Mecobalamin was given to the control group and acupuncture,to the treatment group.The clinical symptoms,motor nerve conduction velocity and sensory nerve conduction velocity,and hs-CRP were examined in the two groups before and after treatment.Results The total efficacy rate was 90% in the treatment group,which was higher than 60% in the control group(P0.05).Nerve conduction velocity increased markedly(P0.01) and hs-CRP decreased significantly after treatment(P0.01).Conclusion Acupuncture has a good therapeutic effect on diabetic peripheral neuropathy and can lower hs-CRP levels.
