The Clinical Study on Risperidone Replacing Clozapine in the Treatment of Chronic Schizophrenia

Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of rispredone and Clozapine in the treatment of chronic schizophrenia. Methods 60 inpatients with chronic schizophrenia who took clozapine were treated by risperidone for 12 weeks. Effects and side effects were assessed with PANSS and TESS respectively before and after 4, 8, 12 weeks treatment. Results Risperdone was as effective as clozapine in the treatment of schizophrenia, after 12 weeks treatment there were no significant differences in the positive score of PANSS and total score (t=1.52, t=1.59, P0.05), and there was significant differences in the negative score of PANSS (t=6.13, P 0.01), Risperidone replacement could further improve negative symptoms and less side effects than clozapine. Conclusion Rispredone replacing clozapine is effective in the treatment of chronic schizophrenia with less side effects and good compliance.
