Abstract

Objective: To study the expression and significance of proliferation cell nuclear antigen (PCAN) and p16 protein in prostatic carcinoma and the their relationship. Methods: With immunohistochemistry (s_p) assay, immunohistochemical detection of PCNA and p16 protein was performed in 50 cases of prostatic carcinoma. Results: The PCNA expression index was higher ( P0.005 ) while the positive expression rate of p16 protein was lower ( P0.05 ) in low differentiation group than those in high differentiation group. The PCNA expression index in P16 protein positive group was lower than that in p16 protein negative group so the difference is of statistical significance ( P0.005 ).Conclusion: The lower differentiation of prostatic carcinoma, the higher the cell proliferation rate and the lower expression rate of p16 protein. The deletion of p16 protein expression might lead to an increase of cell proliferation rate in prostatic carcinoma. So PCNA and p16 protein play an important role in carcinogenesis and development of prostatic carcinoma.
