Abstract
The grafting of acrylamide and/or acrylic acid onto starch by 60Co radiation as an initiator was stu-died in conditions of intermittent.This copolymerization allowed for measurement of important parameters,including the glucose monomer-to-starch ratio and the water absorption of the graft copolymer in salt solutions.The acrylamide-to-acrylic acid ratio,were measured at the radiation dose used in kGy.The graft-copolymerization reaction mechanism and morphology of the copolymer were investigated using FTIR scanning electron microscopy.The effects of the stuff-proportion,radiation does,starch pasting,neutralization degree of acrylic acid,radiation does-rate on the graft copolymerization reaction and absorption capacity of high water were investigated.The results showed that the grafting of acrylic acid on starch could be carried out successfully by 60Co radiation without any chemic initiator.Overcome the traditional production methods with low salt tolerance,slowly water absorption,pollution,high-energy consumption and other problems.
