Abstract
Objective To verify accuracy of the method for controlling the extents of splenic embolization by injecting these gelfoam particles which were determined by the expected extents of splenic embolization and splenic artery branches about 1mm diameter. Methods Before embolization, the expected extents of splenic embolization(Ee)were determined, and splenic artery branches about 1mm diameter(A) were calculated. Then the quantity of gelfoam particles used(G) were respectively estimated according to retrospective study results: G=(E-11.5)A/50.5.Finally,these emboli were respectively injected into main splenic artery in 34 patients. The deviations of the extents of splenic embolization between expected and actual were compared. Results The deviations of the extents of splenic embolization between expected and actual were small. There wasn't a statistical difference( t=0.49,P0.5 ). Conclusion It's accurate to control the extents of splenic embolization by injecting these gelfoam particles which were determined by the expected extents of splenic embolization and splenic artery branches about 1mm diameter.
