Analysis on the Ecological Footprint of Sustainable Development in Sichuan Province

The ecological footprint,ecological capacity and ecological deficit is calculated by the ecological footprint method according to the statistics data from 1997 to 2005 in Sichuan province.The results show that the per capita ecological footprint exceeds the ecological capacity,which results in the huge ecological deficit and unsustainable development of economy and society in Sichuan province.The paper puts forward some countermeasures including advocating economical methods of production and consumption;improving the energy use efficiency,adjusting the construction of soil types,developing hydroelectric stations,developing efficient ecological agriculture and strengthening the work of legislation,propaganda and education,etc on the basis of analyzing the reasons of the huge ecological deficit.
