On Benevolence as the Basis in Confucius Poetics

The social political thoughts of Confucius take benevolence as the core. So from this aspect of aesthetic theory, the manifestation and ingestion of the beauty of personality, the beauty of poems, the beauty of music and the beauty of nature would take benevolence as the basis. And in the self-cultivation and all the activities of human being, benevolence should be relied upon. Taking benevolence as the basis, we not only expect that the poems can be formulated by benevolence, but also dream to “restore to benevolence” in order to resume and rebuild an ideal society based upon benevolence.
