Abstract

[Objective]To investigate the therapeutic effect and security of partial splenic artery embolization(PSE)in patients with liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension.[Methods]Forty-eight cases with liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension were treated with PSE.The blood routine test, liver function, the thickness of the spleen, splenic vein(SV)and portal vein(PV)diameter,Child-Pugh classification changes and the complications were observed respectively before PSE and 1week,1month,3months,6months after PSE.[Results]After the operation, the numbers of leucocytes and platelets were significantly increased(P 0.01),and the SV and PV diameter more reduced 1month after PSE and later(P0.05,P0.01),and spleen thickness became much smaller after 6months(P0.05),Prothrombin time(PT)was significantly shortened and TBil increased(P0.01),but there was no significant difference in AST,ALT and ChildPugh grade before and after operation(P0.05).Many complications happened after PSE,but no serious complications were found.[Conclusion]PSE is safe and effective for curing cirrhosis together with hypersplenism and portal hypertension.
