A Description and Valuation on the Poetics of Yu Jian

This paper analyzes the ideological background of Yu Jian's poetics and points out that his poetics has communicated and interacted with the advanced thoughts in the this century. The essence of Yu Jian's poetics is to reconstruct the spirit of Chinese poetry. This paper illustrates Yu Jian's unique opinions on the basic problems such as the theme, meaning and function of poetry, the relationship between poets and readers. Poetic language is another problems on which Yu Jian's poetics focuses. He has rethought and criticized the violence hidden in modern Chinese poetry, which is, to this day, the most particular scrutiny and speech on the language of modern Chinese poetry. Yu Jian's criticism on systematized literature and literary combination is stimulating. Finally, we point out the weakness in Yu Jian's poetics resulted from his grand narrative style.
