Historical Romance and Historical Novels——Modernization of Historical Romance

Abstract

Historical romance was transformed into historical novels in early New Literature Revolution.Hu Shih first put questions about historical romance by argument with Qian Xuan-tong,in which Hu Shih differentiated historical novels from historical using west moden theory and he regarded historical romance as the popular history.From history of novella Lu Xun found that historical romance had a paradox,which also existed in historical novels.As the negative force,historicalromance resisted to be modernized while it became historical novels at last.For this reason Lu Xun pointed out that historical novels had self-determination characteristic.
