Abstract

Selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde over the Co/γ -Al2O3 catalysts was studied.Selectivity to cinnamyl alcohol over Co/γ-Al2O3 prepared from CoCl2 was higher than that from Co(NO3)2, while the activity showed a reverse direction. It was probably attributed to the presence of Cl- in CoCl2. KCl formed with the addition of K+, which decreased the activity, and increased the selectivity of catalyst. When the Co loading in catalyst was lower than 9%, the activity and selectivity increased with the Co loading. When the loading was higher than 9%, the activity showed a slight increase, while the selectivity almost remained unchanged with increase of Co loading. The reaction temperature and pressure had apparent effect on activity but only little effect on the selectivity to cinnamyl alcohol.
