Changes of nerve conduction velocity in patients with type II diabetes mellitus

Abstract

Objectives:To explore the relationship between the changes of nerve conduction velocity (NCV) and the correlated factors in patients with type Ⅱ diabetes mellitus.Methods:NCV was determined in 164 patients with type Ⅱ diabetes mellitus.The patients were devided into NCV-positive group and NCV negative group,and the relationship between the NCV and clinical data,blood sugar and blood lipid was analyzed.Results:A significant difference of ages and disease course was noted between NCV-positive group and NCV-negative group (P001 and P0001). No significant difference of blood sugar and blood lipid level was found between the two groups.In NCV-positive group,the average value of SCV was less than the normal value.The MCV was normal, significant difference was observed between SCV and MCV.The longer the disease course,the more obvious the changes of NCV.A significant correlation of NCV changes was noted between any two nerves.Conclusions:The changes of peripheral nerve conduction velocity were correlated with the course of disease significantly.It had certain correlation with the ages,but had not correlation with the level of blood sugar and blood lipid.A close correlation was noted between the degree of sensory nerve and motor nerve damages.In patients with disease course over five years,the nerve damages might be awared.
