Survey of AIDS knowledge,attitude and behavior among 421 commercial sex workers in Lingshui county

Objective To understand the AIDS knowledge,attitude,behavior and the incidence of HIV,HCV and syphilis infection among the CSW in 2010.Methods All CSW in the entertainment establishments were asked to carry out the anonymous questionnaire survey by adopting the unified questionnaire.The data were processeded by Epidata3.1 and analyzed by using SPSS11.5 software.Results The youngest CSW was 19 years old and the oldest one was 48 years old,averagely 21.5years old.Among the CSWs,the unmarried accounted for 68.17%.The awareness rate of HIV transmission knowledge including sexual contact,the spread of blood products and through mother to child transmission were 51.3%,85.3% and 84.4%,respectively.The awareness rate of correct use of condoms accounted for 56.5%.The AIDS knowledge was significant associated with the education level and age of CSW(P 0.0001).with the increase of the education level,the awareness rate of the comprehensive knowledge increased(χ2=45.0,P 0.001).The syphilis infection rate was 3.5%.Conclusions The knowledge level of HIV/AIDS are generally low in CSW in Lingshui.Various AIDS health education should be conducted,so as to improve their comprehensive knowledge and promote the condom use for preventing transmission of AIDS in this county.
