Comprehensive index analysis on water quality in Urumqi river

Abstract

The water quality in Urumqi River was analyzed using the improved comprehensive index method including both comprehensive and classification evaluations to find out the main pollution and polluted sources.The results showed that the water quality of four monitoring sections in Urumqi River conformed to requirements of specific surface water function areas.Water quality in the upper stream and middle stream of the River was clean,butin down stream water was mildly polluted.The indexes of comprehensive pollution,organic pollution and nutrient salts pollution all increased with the river flowing process.The main pollutants were organic pollutants such as COD,petroleum etc.The main sources of pollution which affected water quality included industrial activity in the upper portion of the river,waste water from agricultural pollution source and domestic pollution source along the middle and lower sections.
