Study on the correlation between mental health and personality characteristics among employed nurses

Objective To determine the correlation between mental health and personality characteristics among employed nurses,and thereby to provide reference for management countermeasures.Method Two hundred and four employed nurses were investigated with Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90) and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire(EPQ).Then,the correlation between mental health and personality characteristics was analyzed.Results ①Except the factors of anxiety,fear and psychoticism,the other factor scores of SCL-90 among employed nurses were significantly lower than that of the normal(P0.01).②The total score and each factor score of SCL-90 were significantly correlated with the score of Neuroticism of EPQ.Except the factor of fear of SCL-90,the score of Psychoticism of EPQ was significantly positively correlated with the other factors of SCL-90.The score of Extroversion of EPQ was negatively correlated with each factor score of SCL-90 except the factors of hostility and crankiness.Conclusion The general level of mental health among employed nurses is relatively high,but the nurses also show various degree of negative emotions.There is close correlation between mental health and neurology of personal.
