Discussions on the Designing Project of Metadata Standard for Digital Chengdu

Metadata is more and more important in information sharing with the growth of data type and that of metadata. Metadata is especially important in that it can avoid unnecessary duplication in data production, and moreover, it will be helpful for organizations with different systems (and even incompatible systems) to coordinate and to share information mutually. We established metadata standard template for Chengdu city in this paper on the basis of domestic and international metadata standards. We adopt three levels of metadata management, that is, Metadata Section, Metadata Entity and Metadata Element. This very template mainly includes Identification Information, Data Quality Information, Spatial Reference Information, Content Information, Distribution Information and Metadata Reference Information. It finally concludes that all the related departments and offices should establish their own metadata templates with Digital Chengdu template as the base.
