Abstract
Objective To investigate the effects of cataract phacoemulsification intraocular lens implantation on the appearance and function of corneal endothelial cells in diabetes patients. Methods A total of 85 cataract patients(100 eyes)were selected in our hospital from January,2008 to December,2010,they all received phacoemulsification intraocular lens implantation, and then divided randomly into two groups:diabetes group(40 cases,48 eyes)and non-diabetes group(45 cases,52 eyes). All cases received phacoemulsification intraocular lens implantation. At preoperative and postoperative 1 day,1 week,1 month and 3 months, the corneal endothelial in the central region and incision were detected by corneal endothelial cell instrument without touching. The changes of corneal endothelial cell density, hexagonal cells, variation coefficient, central corneal thickness were observed. Results In diabetes group, corneal endothelial cell density at postoperative 1 day,1 week,1 month and 3 months were(2645.32±284.23)μm-2,(2612.42±281.12)μm-2,(2498.65±264.44)μm-2 and(2407.12±212.32)μm-2,respectively.They were all lower than that before operation(2978.85±334.59)μm-2,and there was significant difference(all P0.05).In non-diabetes group, they were(2756.55±314.45)μm-2,(2745.32±312.58)μm-2,(2675.41±301.11)μm-2,(2645.75±344.68)μm-2,respectively.They were all lower than that before operation(3022.45±315.62)μm-2,and there was significant difference(all P0.05).There was no significant difference in corneal endothelial cell density at different times points before and after operation(P0.05).In diabetes group, hexagonal cells at different times points decreased obviously, they were all lower than that before operation, and there was significant difference(all P0.05).But compared with different times points, there was no significant difference(all P0.05).In non-diabetes group, the hexagonal cells after operation compared with different times points before operation at different times, there was no significant difference(all P0.05).And compared with different times points after operation, there was no significant difference(all P0.05).Hexagonal cells, variation coefficient and central corneal thickness at different times points before and after operation were compared, and there was no significant difference(all P0.05).Conclusion The appearance and function of corneal endothelial cells in diabetes and cataract patients change on some degree, its repairing of injury degrades and its competence of stimulus steps down.
