Abstract

Objective To study the method and clinical effect of early postoperative enteral nutrition in patients with esophageal cancerMethods From December 2007 to December 2010,retrospective study was done on 120 cases of esophageal cancer, the patients were divided into two groups in which enteral nutrition(EN) group,65 cases, were managed with early use of nutritional support through intestine and parenteral nutrition(PN) group,55 cases, were given nutrition by way of veins.Complications, general recovery and blood biochemical criteria after operation between the two groups were compared. Results The incidence of complications in EN group was lower than that in PN group. The time needed for ranal exsufflation, ambulation and hospital stay was shorter. The value of albumin was higher and the incidence of hypokalemia was lower in EN group. Conclusion Early use of enteral nutrition after operation on esophageal cancer was safe, effective and practical, with more significant advantages than those of parenteral nutrition.
