Abstract
Objective To investigate the efficacy and safety of combined therapy with small-dose fluvastatin and fenofibrate in elderly patients with combined hyperlipidemia. Methods Seventy elderly patients with combined hyperlipidemia were randomly assigned to fluvastatin(n=35,20 mg/d) or a combination therapy(n=35) of fluvastatin(20 mg/d) and fenofibrate(200 mg/qod) for 12 weeks. Results Combination therapy was more effective in normalizing lipid profile than fluvastatin monotherapy. The improvement in LDL-C,TG and HDL-C achieved by combination treatment was superior to monotherapy(P0.01 or P0.05).No serious adverse event was reported during this study. Conclusions Combination therapy with small-dose fluvastatin and fenofibrate is more effective than fluvastatin monotherapy in elderly patients with combined hyperlipidemia, and is generally safe and well tolerated.
