On Wu Li’s Poems

Wu Li is a famous artist,adherent of the Ming Dynasty,and Catholic in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty.His poems are of great historical significance,for they record his unusual experiences.As an artist,his paintings,with his unique sensitivity and imagination,display an aesthetic combination of poetry and paintings.Wu Li,a native of Changshu,is greatly influenced by the Yushan School of Poetry with its leading figure Qian Qianyi,and his poems,in terms of content and form,enjoy a unique position in the poetry history of the early Qing Dynasty.
