Abstract
Objective To investigate alterations in expression of Ki67 and P16 proteins in cervical carcinogenesis.Methods The abnormal expression of Ki67 and P16 proteins was detected by immunohistochemical staining of 62 cases of normal cervical tissue, cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and cervical squamous cell carcinoma.Results The positive rates of Ki67 were 90.5% in cervical carcinoma. A positive correlation was found between the Ki67 expression and the pathological grading of the lesions (P0.01). The positive rates of P16 were 57.1% in cervical carcinoma and 90.4% in normal cervical tissue.There was a significant difference between the expression of P16 and the cervical carcinoma pathological grading of the lesions(P0.05).Conclusions There was a positive correlation between the abnormal expression of Ki67 and P16 and cervical carcinoma.It is suggested that Ki67 and P16 expression may be taken as an effective biomarkers for early detection.
