Abstract

OBJECTIVE To investigate the chemical constituents of Arisaema rhizomatum. METHODS The constituents were isolated and purified by silica gel and Sephadex LH- 20 column chromatography and preparative TLC. Their structures were identified on the basis of spectral data and physiochemical characteristics. RESULTS Twelve compounds were isolated from 70% ethanol extracts and identified as β-sitosterol(1),daucosterin(2),apigenin-7-O-β-D-glucuronide(3),neo-olivil(4),oldhamactam(5),O-ethyllycorenine(6),α-asarone( 7),( R)-bgugaine( 8),5,7,4'-trihydroxy-3'-methoxyflavone( 9),apigenin-6-C-galactosyl-8-C-arabinoside(10),isoschaftoside(11) and uridine(12). CONCLUSION Compounds 5 and 6 are reported from the plants in genus Arisaema.for the first time. Compounds 3,4,7,10,11 and 12 are isolated from this plant material for the first time.
