Abstract
In a survey of butterflies in Chongqing carried out in 1990 to 2000, 404 species were recorded, belonging to 12 families and 171 genera. The predominant types appeared to be the Oriental species, accounting for 62.1% of the total, followed by the wide-spread species, accounting for 23.3% of the total. The Palaearctic species were the least in number, accounting for 14.6% of the total. Cluster analysis in combination with consideration of the landscape , climate and vegetation of their distribution, the butterflies are zoogeographically divided into three regions.
