Abstract

In view of the rapid progress in Shanghai suburbs tourism, the author takes 161 specific attractions as samples, which are picked from 9 districts(Baoshan,Jiading,Qingpu,Songjiang,Jinshan,Minhang,Nanhui,Fengxian, parts of Pudong) and 1 county(Chongming) of Shanghai.According to the method of compound category, the author cuts attractions into 9 categories with the attributes of tourism resources and travel activities. But only four categories among the 9 can be found in Shanghai. The paper explores deeply on the basis of a large amount of statistical data with the support of electronic maps, software of SPSS and also by using metrological geography and quantitative methods such as distance from city centre, rotating radius, spatial distribution curve, discrete index of attraction and so on.At last, the spatial characteristics of Shanghai suburbs attractions are discovered.
