Normal limb position for prevention of joint contracture: Rehabilitative care of 52 patients with early stage hemiplegia

Objective: To investigate the influence of normal limb position for prevention of joint contracture in patients with early stage hemiplegia.Methods: A total of 104 cases were randomly divided into study group and control group,with 52 cases in each group.Both groups were treated with conventional therapy and neurological rehabilitation.For the study group,normal limb position was also required and early rehabilitation care was conducted.After 2 months,Brunnstrom,Barthel,and Ashwovoh were used for evaluation of motor function and joint contracture.Results: The study group showed significant better outcomes regarding to Brunnstrom and Barthel index(P0.05).Joint contractures was observed in 12 patients of the study group(23.1%) and 35 patients in the control group(67.3%),showing significant difference between the two(P0.05).Conclusions: Normal limb position is effective for prevention of joint contracture in patients with early stage hemiplegia.
